SOPHIE DOUGLAS is proving herself an invaluable resource at Echuca, having kicked the most goals in the Northern Country Women’s League this year.

Douglas is averaging three majors a game, and has a total of 15, level with Benalla Saints’ Kelsie Piscioneri.

She added another to her growing total on Sunday during Echuca’s 59-point thumping victory over Rumbalara at Victoria Park.

Douglas was one of nine goal kickers on the day, something Echuca coach Mick McInnes is quite proud of.

‘‘It’s good to have someone down there regularly kicking them, but then again on the day they were all individual goal kickers which is good to see,’’ McInnes said.

‘‘We played really well, the whole side, even some of the new girls got game time and everyone played their role well.’’

He said the next task of Shepparton Bears at Vic Park would be massive.

‘‘We’ll just keep working on everything we have been working on, our spread around the contest just the same, we were pretty close in the pre-season and if we can get that scoreboard pressure going we will be fine,’’ he said.

Echuca has had a sterling season in the NCWL with four wins and a loss, sitting on the second rung of the ladder behind Shepparton Bears.

The Bears ran out 15 point winners over the Saints on Sunday, even though the Shepparton side wasted a number of shots at goal in their 10 behinds.

The Murray Bombers-Bears clash will take place on Saturday after the men’s seniors go head to head.
