GOING back-to-back is a great feeling, especially if you break a record as you cross the line.
Temper 2 won last year’s 16-19 Boys Expert class, only to go on and break the race record at this year’s Southern 80.
Coming from Rowville, in Melbourne’s south east, the team of Rhett Davis (driver), Ben Hackett (observer), Jack Coaldrake and Lachlan Nix (skiers) now have a record of their own to brag about.
Previous holder Pigs Arsenal set a time of 32.05 in the 2015 edition. But as the Temper 2 skiers crossed the line this year they had done it in 31.37 minutes.
Skier Jack Coaldrake said the team had to endure tough conditions in the race, which made the record even more impressive.
‘‘It was awesome, I think it’s a really good time and we’ve been wanting to get this time for a long time now,’’ he said.
‘‘The record was 32.05, so to put nearly 30 seconds on it, it’s a lot of time.’’
Coaldrake said starting in eighth position made it tough going, and the side ‘‘copped a lot of cross-wash’’ down the circuit.
‘‘Just the whole way we copped the cross-wash, but we made it and we’re happy to be here,’’ he said.
The team also made the podium for the President’s Dash, coming in third, just 10 seconds from first-placed Arkham Asylum.
