SOUTHERN 80 organisers are pleading with swimmers to keep out of the river during race times.
They are concerned today's forecast sunny conditions might tempt more of them into the water.
“Numbers were already causing alarm during yesterday's racing,” a spokesman said.
“If we get people in the water it will not only threaten the race it will threaten lives,” he said.
“First and foremost this is a safety issue – boats will be coming through doing 200km’h at times – in the confines of the river that is a formula for disaster if people try and share the same stretch of river.”
